Xs starved Ys out.

Взять крепость штурмом они не смогли и решили взять её измором. They couldn't take the fortress by storm, so they decided to starve the inhabitants out.

2. - кого (subj: human to (try to) force s.o. to do sth. against his will by besieging him with persistent and irksome requests, actions etc: X берет Y-a на измор - X is wearing (trying to wear) Y down (out)

X is nagging (hounding) Y (into doing sth. ) X is wearing (trying to wear) down Yb resistance.
